Intimidating his opponents through both size and skill, Tim Molle [1981-84] set the standard by which future Seawolf defensemen would be judged.

At 6-4, 225 pounds, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native arrived with a bang, scoring 32 points and capturing the team’s Rookie of the Year honor as a freshman. Despite battling an elbow injury at the beginning of his sophomore season, Molle still came on strong at the end of the year, finishing with 20 points and helping the Seawolves to the program’s first 20-win season in 1982-83. But he would save the best for his final campaign, earning All-America honors for a UAA team that posted a 23-6-1 record – still the second-most wins in program history.

Molle registered eight goals and 26 assists that year, trailing only fellow Seawolf Hall of Famer Dennis Sorenson for the overall team scoring lead, and helping the team start the season with a 17-game win streak. Although he turned pro before his senior season, Molle left as UAA’s all-time leading defenseman scorer, and still ranks among the top 5 career leaders for defenseman assists (3rd, 61) and points (5th, 82). He also held UAA defenseman single-season scoring records for several years after his Seawolf career ended.

Following professional stints in the American and International hockey leagues with both the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks organizations, Molle returned to UAA from 1989-91 as a volunteer assistant coach, contributing to the squad that made the 1991 NCAA Quarterfinals. He later skated with the Anchorage Aces, spending five seasons as team captain.

In 2002 he was presented with the Seawolves’ Trailblazer Award, and he has coached locally with the North Stars youth hockey club.

Currently a fireman with the Anchorage Fire Department, Molle and his wife Roberta are the parents of three children, Dustin, Bryant and Candace.
