BYU-Hawaii Foyles UAA men, 84-78

ANCHORAGE (Nov. 29) - BYU-Hawaii forward Alexus Foyle scored a game-high 27 points to lead his team past UAA 84-78 in men's basketball action at the Sports Center tonight in the annual AT&T Alascom Jamboree.

UAA (0-4) got 17 points and six assists from senior guard Ty Shippen, but the Seawolves managed only 34 percent shooting to BYU's 43 percent. Center Scott Salisbury contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Seasiders (4-2).

After trailing by as many as seven points in the second half, the Seawolves made a late run to cut BYU's margin to 80-78 with 30 seconds remaining. But with the score 82-78, Shippen's three-pointer from the corner bounced off the rim and into Foyle's hands to seal UAA's fate.

The Seawolves led 18-10 early, but the Seasiders made a 9-0 run to take the lead with 8:22 remaining in the first half. UAA again went up by eight at 30-22 before BYU rallied for a 33-33 halftime tie.

Led by Peter Bullock's 12-point, 11-rebound effort, the Seawolves outrebounded the Seasiders 48-43 and forced 24 turnovers. However, the Seawolves committed 18 turnovers of their own and could never find a consistent three-point threat, going 7-for-23 from long range. BYU-Hawaii was 7-for-16 on threes, led by Keli'l Naihe's 3-for-6 effort.

UAA's 0-4 record is its worst start in school history, dating back to 1977-78.

BYU-Hawaii takes on Missouri-Rolla (3-0) on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in Game 2 of the AT&T Alascom Jamboree. The Seawolves get their chance for revenge Saturday night at 7:05 in a rematch with the Seasiders. UAA and Missouri-Rolla then close out the four-game event Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
