ANCHORAGE (Dec. 1) - Yuta Tabuse made a 17-foot jumper with 4.7 seconds remaining to give Brigham Young-Hawaii its only lead of the night and a 74-73 victory over the UAA men's basketball team in the AT&T Alascom Jamboree at the Sports Center tonight.
Tabuse's shot completed a 8-0 game-ending rally for BYU (6-2), which trailed by as much as 26-10 midway through the first half and 72-61 with 6:06 left in the game. Sophomore Peter Bullock led the Seawolves (0-5) with 16 points and 12 rebounds, his second straight double-double.
The Seawolves shot 48.6 percent in the first half but trailed off to 31 percent in the second and didn't score a point after Nelson Williams' free throw made it 73-66 with 5:01 remaining. Alexus Foyle took over late for BYU, scoring five of the next six points to set up the winning play.
Foyle ended with game-highs of 28 points and 13 rebounds. The 6-6 forward took 27 of BYU's 62 shots.
Meanwhile, UAA struggled with BYU's size, getting outrebounded 46-38. The Seawolves lost despite getting an incredible 10 blocks, including a career-high seven from Bullock.
UAA, which had never started 0-5 in the program's 25-year history, looks to get into the win column Sunday at 2:05 p.m. when the Jamboree concludes against Missouri-Rolla. BYU-Hawaii finished the event with a 3-0 mark.
