ANCHORAGE (Dec. 30) - Adam Fitt-Chappell led a balanced attack with 17 points as the UAA men's basketball team ran away with an 84-60 victory over Montevallo tonight in the second game of the Glacier Classic at the Sports Center.
The Seawolves (4-6) led by 11 at the break and went on a 26-6 run to start the second half to put it out of reach. Montevallo (2-8) got 15 points and 11 rebounds from center Daniel Melo.
Junior forward Peter Bullock scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while UAA's starting backcourt of Cody Gallatin and Scott Stevens combined for 19 points and 13 assists. Junior center Mike Keddington had career-highs of 10 points and six rebounds, hitting all four of his field goal attempts and both of his free throws.
UAA dominated the boards, posting a season-best rebounding margin of 45-31. The Seawolves shot 43.3 percent (29-67), while holding the visitors from Alabama to just 37.9 percent (22-58).
Led by Fitt-Chappell, UAA got great production from its bench, outscoring Montevallo's subs 43-20. All 12 Seawolves got in the scoring column, including freshman center Stewart Kearney, who collected his first career basket on a fast-break layup for the game's final points.
In the Classic's first game, Alaska Fairbanks (8-2) defeated Christian Brothers (5-4) 76-63 behind 23 points from Brad Oleson. UAF will meet Montevallo in Game 3 at 4 p.m. Tuesday, while UAA takes on Christian Brothers (Tenn.) in the final matchup at 6 p.m.
