SEATTLE (Dec. 7) - Mark Drake scored a season-high 25 points, but the rest of the Seawolves couldn't get on track as UAA dropped a 71-59 men's basketball decision to Seattle University at the Connolly Center tonight.
Drake hit three of his four three-pointers early as UAA (3-4, 1-1 GNAC) built a 20-13 lead. But Seattle (4-2, 1-1) held the Seawolves without a field goal for the last seven minutes of the first half and took a 38-27 advantage into the locker room.
UAA star Peter Bullock was held to 10 points - 14 below his average - and four rebounds, while no other Seawolf reached double-figure scoring. Shane Bannarbie had eight points and six rebounds off the bench, and fellow sub Adam Fitt-Chappell had seven points and three assists.
The Seawolves cut their deficit to 56-55 on Drake's layup with 4:30 remaining, but Andy Bloom hit one of two free throws and Darnell Lyons followed with a three-pointer, ending the UAA charge.
Lyons and Bloom led SU with 14 points each, while Jeffrey McDaniel scored 13. The Redhawks enjoyed a huge advantage on the boards, 46-29, outscoring UAA 24-0 on second-chance points.
The Seawolves play four more non-conference games before resuming Great Northwest Athletic Conference play in January. UAA's next games are Dec. 20 and 21 against Colorado School of Mines. The Dec. 20 contest will be played at Buckner Field House on the Fort Richardson Army base, while the Dec. 21 game is back at the Sports Center.
