BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Jan. 22) - The Seawolf men's basketball team played one of its best offensive games of the season Saturday night at Carver Gym. Unfortunately, host Western Washington was even sharper, downing UAA 102-92 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game.
The Seawolves (8-9, 2-6 GNAC) were led by Marcus Robinson's 20-point effort as they shot 50 percent from the field and committed a season-low seven turnovers. The Vikings (13-3, 5-2) seemingly couldn't miss from anywhere, though, shooting 57 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range and 87 percent from the free throw line.
Guard Ryan Diggs led six Vikings in double-figures with 27 points (7-11 FG, 4-6 3FG, 9-10 FT), while forward Tyler Amaya had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
UAA put five players in double figures as Bryan Freshwater and James Hartman scored 17 apiece, Adam Fitt-Chappell added 14 and Mark Drake contributed 10 points. Fitt-Chappell also pulled down a season-high nine rebounds.
The Seawolves fell behind 48-32 with just two minutes left in the first half, but fought back to within 50-39 at the break. UAA chipped away at the Viking lead until a Fitt-Chappell jumper made it 59-55 with 15:24 remaining.
But that's as close as UAA would get, as WWU pushed the lead back to double digits.
Drake knocked down a three-pointer at the 2:33 mark that closed the gap to 92-87 before Diggs responded with a conventional three-point play to seal the victory.
UAA's road 3-game road journey concludes Thursday night when its battles arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
