FAIRBANKS ? McCade Olsen had 27 points and nine rebounds and Luke Cooper dished 10 assists to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 78-60 men's basketball victory over Florida Tech at the Glacier Classic here Friday at the Patty Center.
The Seawolves (6-2) also got 14 points from forward Carl Arts and 13 points from guard Buddy Bailey as they shot a 55.8 percent from the floor. Florida Tech (2-6) was led by 20 points from forward Carl McNally.
UAA never trailed in the game, although its 12-point, first-half lead was cut to just 37-34 at halftime. But the Seawolves came out of the break with a 21-4 run ? capped by Trenton Millar's three-pointer at the 11:20 mark ? to take control again.
The Panthers, of Melbourne, Fla., made a quick run of their own to slice their deficit to 62-54 before Olsen answered with a fast-break layup and Cooper scored his only points of the game from the charity stripe. Olsen shot 12 of 17 from the field (2-3 3FG) as he scored the most points by a Seawolf this season.
Meanwhile, Arts was red-hot as well, nailing 6 of 9 from the field, including both of his three-point attempts. As a team the Seawolves shot a season-best 56.3 percent (9-16) from long range, boosted by Bailey's 2-for-4 effort as well. Bailey also went 5 of 5 from the free throw line.
For Cooper ? UAA's all-time assists leader ? it was the 10th time in his career recording double-digit assists.
Florida Tech, of the Sunshine State Conference, won the rebounding battle 29-28 but dished only eight assists to UAA's 25.
The Seawolves ? now a perfect 3-0 against Division II competition this season ? will conclude play at the Classic on Saturday with a 5 p.m. AST match-up against Augustana (S.D.).
