MONMOUTH, Ore. – Eric Draper scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Carl Arts tossed in 18 points as Alaska Anchorage ran away from host Western Oregon in a 70-49 victory at the New P.E. Building on Saturday.
The 25th-ranked Seawolves (12-4, 3-2 GNAC) also got 10 points from Ivan Platenik and 10 assists from point guard Luke Cooper to collect their first road victory of the season. WOU (6-11, 1-5) was held to 37 percent shooting and had no players score double figures as UAA's league-leading defense was at its best.
UAA trailed 11-6 early before Draper hit back-to-back three-pointers to give his team the lead for good, 19-16, with 7:22 remaining in the first half. The Seawolves stretched their advantage to 33-25 at halftime and began the second stanza with an 11-2 burst to pull away.
Adonal Arrington (9 pts, 4-5 FG) brought the Wolves win 54-42 on a layup with 7:43 showing, but Arts answered with seven straight points in a 10-0, game-clinching spurt.
The Seawolves improved to 11-0 when shooting above 50 percent (24 of 43, .558) as they nailed 10-of-18 treys. Draper went 5 of 6 from beyond the arc, while Trenton Millar (7 pts, 6 reb) was 2 of 3 and Arts 2 of 4.
For Cooper, his assist total marked the school-record 12th time he has attained double digits in the category.
Draper's eight rebounds equaled his career-high for the third time.
The Seawolves return to Anchorage for classes before continuing their road odyssey Thursday, Jan. 25 at Western Washington and Saturday, Jan. 27 at Seattle University.
