LAIE, Hawaii ? Chris Bryant scored 26 points and Carl Arts had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team to a thrilling 95-90 double-overtime victory over 11th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii tonight at the Cannon Activities Center on Monday night.
The Seawolves (5-3) shot 57 percent from the floor, including 11 of 20 on three-pointers, and overcame a four-point deficit in the second overtime to notch their biggest win of the young season.
The host Seasiders (4-1) were led by 33 points and 11 rebounds from sophomore forward Lucas Alves, whose three-pointer with 2 seconds left in regulation sent the game to extra time.
Alves hit his dramatic trey just six seconds after Bryant had given UAA a 76-73 lead with a three of his own.
BYUH led much of the first overtime but Arts nailed a fadeway, baseline jumper from 13 feet to knot it 82-82 as the buzzer sounded.
The Seasiders went up 88-84 in the second overtime before UAA's Cameron Burney scored five straight points to give UAA the lead for good. Trailing 88-87, Arts missed the second of two free throws and Burney grabbed the offensive rebound and drew a foul. He made both charities then grabbed a steal at halfcourt on the next Seasider possession. Burney glided in for the slam dunk and was fouled by BYUH's Trenson Akana, essentially sealing the win for the Seawolves.
Bryant, a senior transfer, matched his collegiate high that he set as a sophomore at Drake University with his 26 points, while Arts earned his 10th career double-double.
Senior point guard Luke Cooper dished nine assists, while McCade Olsen had nine points as he fought through foul trouble.
Guard Paul Peterson was one of four Seasiders in double figures with 24 points.
The Seawolves continue their Hawaii trip Wednesday with an 8:30 p.m. (AST) tip against Chaminade in Honolulu.
