ANCHORAGE ? McCade Olsen scored a game-high 20 points and fellow senior Luke Cooper had 12 points and 12 assists to help the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team pull away for a 75-52 win over Christian Brothers in the AT&T Alascom Jamboree on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
Senior guard Chris Bryant scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half as UAA (9-3) won its seventh straight. Swingman Kevin Weybright led CBU (6-5) with 15 points, while center Nick Kohs had nine points and nine rebounds.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for the first 28 minutes until UAA took complete command. The Seawolves trailed 44-40 with 15:50 to play when Bryant (6-10 FG, 4-8 3FG) nailed a three-pointer to begin the UAA surge.
The Seawolves managed a 52-49 lead with 10 minutes remaining, then went on to outscore the visitors from Memphis, Tenn., 23-3 to close it out. Kyle Couvion's layup with 4:15 to play was the Buccaneers' only field goal over the last 15 minutes.
Senior Carl Arts had all 11 of his points and four of his six rebounds in the second half, while forward Cameron Burney tallied nine points (including a thunderous dunk that made it 71-51), six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
UAA shot a blazing 63.6 percent (14-22) in the second half and outrebounded CBU 32-28 on the night. The Seawolves got 69 of their 75 points from their starting five.
Bryant, who had 23 points in Friday's win over Ferris State, was named the Jamboree's Most Outstanding Player, and was joined by teammates Cooper and Olsen on the All-Jamboree Team.
For Cooper, the game marked his fifth career double-double and was his 23rd career double-digit-assist outing.
UAA's 7-game winning streak equals its longest since early in the 2003-04 season and gives the Seawolves a perfect 9-0 mark against Division II squads this year.
The Seawolves hit the road to begin Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Jan. 3 at Western Oregon and Jan. 5 at Saint Martin's.
