Wilson paces gymnasts to season-high 186.775

DENVER ? Sophomores Leah Wilson and Maria Puricelli both earned career-high all-around scores Saturday to pace the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team to a season-high 186.775 score Denver University.

The Seawolves finished third in the quad-meet, defeating Winona State (183.350) to earn their first victory over the season. DU, ranked 22nd nationally, won with 195.300 points, while Kent State was second at 193.600.

Wilson, from Coquitlam, B.C., finished fourth of seven all-arounders with 38.525 points, boosted by a 9.675 on beam. It was the first career all-around performance for Wilson, who was competing in her first meet of the season. Her 9.625 bars score came on her first-ever collegiate try on that apparatus.

Puricelli, meanwhile, used a 9.55 on vault and a 9.35 on bars to earn her best all-around score (37.425) in five tries.

Freshman Shakea Sanders matched Wilson with a 9.65 on vault, while freshman Kaelei Spoor led UAA with a personal-best 9.7 on beam. The Seawolves' team scores of 47.750 on vault and 47.225 on beam were both season-highs as well.

The Seawolves complete their short road trip Monday (4 p.m. AST) when they travel south to Colorado Springs for a dual against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival Air Force.
