Seawolves open with 65-39 road win

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team used balanced scoring and a school-record defensive effort in the first half Wednesday to claim a 65-39 victory over host American Sports University at the Hernandez Center.

The Seawolves were led by 13 points from sophomore center Malcolm Campbell and 10 from junior forward Nick Pacitti in their UAA debuts, while forwards Liam Gibcus and Casey Robinson chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.

Tiger Wright led the NAIA Eagles (0-1) with a game-high 15 points, but most of those came in the second half after UAA held ASU to just one field goal before halftime. UAA's 35-7 advantage marked the fewest points allowed in any half by a Seawolf team, breaking the record of 11 against Lancaster Bible on Nov. 5, 2006.

Robinson – a 6-6 forward in his first game back after missing last season with a knee injury – hit a three-pointer to start the scoring, and UAA quickly jumped to leads of 12-0, 18-1 and 23-2.

A Julius Clark layup with 3:09 remaining in the half was ASU's first basket of the night as the home team shot 1 of 18 in the opening stanza.

The Seawolves stay in southern California this week to take on Div. I Long Beach State in an exhibition at Walter Pyramid, Saturday, Nov. 14, at 3:05 p.m. AST.
