Seawolves tame Trojans, 87-57

ANCHORAGE – Malcolm Campbell had 18 points and seven rebounds Wednesday to lead a balanced offensive attack as the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team cruised past Trinity International, 87-57, at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (8-2) earned their fifth straight victory thanks to 59 percent shooting and a 42-17 rebounding advantage.

The Trojans (2-14) got 13 points apiece from guard Tyrone Smith and forward Ignas Verbus, but the NAIA visitors from Deerfield, Ill., could not keep up in the second half.

UAA led just 38-30 at the break as TIU used an 11-0 run to end the first half. But the Seawolves got back-to-back dunks by Campbell around the 18-minute mark to take a 45-31 advantage, and Donnie Lao made it a 58-37 game with a three-pointer with 13:21 left.

Lao finished with a career-high 15 points, knocking down 5 of 7 three-pointers, while forward Nick Pacitti came off the bench with an impressive stat line of 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds and six assists.

Casey Robinson scored 12 points and dished five assists, and fellow junior Brandon Walker had 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists as five Seawolves scored in double figures.

UAA and TIU will meet against Thursday in a 5 p.m. tip-off at the WFSC in the final non-conference game for the Seawolves.
