UAA rolls past Walla Walla, 105-67

ANCHORAGE – Brandon Walker and Taylor Rohde both delivered big offensive performances Friday as the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team cruised to a 105-67 victory over Walla Walla in the opening game of the 2010 AT&T Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (6-3) got 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, seven rebounds and four steals from Walker, who knocked down 5 of 6 from three-point range. Rohde, a 6-9 center, was a force in the paint with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting, plus a career-high nine rebounds in just 20 minutes.

The Wolves (0-4), an NAIA Division II program from College Place, Wash., were led by 17 points apiece from guards Josh Henderson and Tristan Greenidge.

Sparked by 14 points and seven rebounds from Rohde in the first half, UAA jumped to a 21-4 advantage and never looked back. Freshman guard Kyle Fossman came off the bench in the second half to score all 15 of his career-high points on five straight three-pointers, while reserve center Liam Gibcus had eight points on perfect shooting (3-3 FG, 2-2 FT).

Playing their first game since Dec. 4, the Seawolves got scoring from all 12 of their players, including eight points from starting guard Mario Gill. Juniors Phillip Hearn and Lonnie Ridgeway each tallied their first points of the season, accounting for seven apiece.

For Ridgeway, it was the Anchorage native's first action since the final game of the 2008-09 season. The 6-3 swingman took last year off from school and sat out the first semester this year as he regained his eligibility. Ridgeway scored his first basket on a dunk midway through the first half and finished with 3-of-7 shooting and three assists.

Senior point guard Drew Robinson dished seven assists without a turnover, helping UAA commit only six team turnovers – tying the 5th-fewest ever for a Seawolf team.

The Seawolves return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host fellow NCAA Div. II opponent Florida Tech in Game 3 of the AT&T Jamboree. Walla Walla will play Alaska Fairbanks in Game 2 at 5 p.m. Saturday.
