Rangers outlast Nanooks in AT&T opener

ANCHORAGE – Senior forward Jon Conley came off the bench to score 14 points and grab nine rebounds Friday, leading Regis to a season-opening 72-63 victory over Alaska Fairbanks in the AT&T Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Rangers point guard Jarrett Green added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and only one turnover in 36 minutes to earn AT&T Player of the Game honors.

The Nanooks (0-1) got a game-high 15 points from guard Ronnie Baker, plus 13 points and five rebounds from center Sergej Pucar.

Regis, from Denver and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, snapped a 28-28 halftime tie with the first eight points of the second half, including a personal 6-0 run by forward Joseph Bodman, who finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

UAF got within four points twice in the late going, but Regis guard Joe Slocum banked in a three-pointer with 43 seconds left to make it 68-61 and seal the win.

UAF plays against Holy Names in Saturday's 1 p.m. Jamboree tip-off, while Regis faces host Alaska Anchorage in the event's finale, Saturday at 3 p.m. at the WFSC.
