Harvard blitzes TCU for Shootout gold pan

ANCHORAGE – Laurent Rivard scored 15 points and Harvard dominated from start to finish Saturday to claim the 2013 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title with a 71-50 rout of TCU at Sullivan Arena.

The Crimson (7-1) also got a huge lift from their bench as reserve forwards Jonah Travis and Evan Cummins combined for 21 points and 12 rebounds. Cummins added a tournament-high six blocked shots.

The Horned Frogs (4-3) were led by 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from junior point guard Kyan Anderson, but the rest of his teammates shot just 8 of 44 from the field.

Sparked by tournament Most Outstanding Player Wesley Saunders, Harvard jumped to leads of 8-0 and 21-6, and led by double figures for the last 33 minutes of the game. The Ivy League club – the first ever to claim a Shootout title in the tourney's 36-year history – pushed its largest lead to 46-17 with 2:55 remaining in the first half.

Saunders scored just four points but was all over the rest of the stat sheet with nine assists, eight rebounds and four steals. The Crimson also landed point guard Siyani Chambers (10 points, 5 assists) and power forward Steve Moundou-Missi (8 points, 8 rebounds) on the all-tournament team.

The loss was especially tough for the Horned Frogs, who lost forward Americ Fields and Brandon Parrish to injuries in the first half. Neither player returned, although Fields was named to the 10-player all-tourney team, along with Anderson.
