Bangaly helps Nanooks skewer Toros, 81-73

ANCHORAGE – Forward Bangaly Kaba scored six of his 18 points during a game-ending 11-2 run Friday to lift Alaska Fairbanks to an 81-73 men's basketball victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the opening game of the Seawolf Jamboree at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Nanooks (3-0) got 10 rebounds and five blocks from Bangaly, while teammate Travante Williams also posted a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The Toros (1-2) got a game-high 22 points and three blocks from swingman Ivan Dooley, while point guard Vincent Golson finished with 17 points and five assists.

The game featured 14 lead changes and five ties, with CSUDH taking its final advantage, 71-70, on Dooley's three-pointer with 3:43 remaining.

Tied 71-71 with 2 minutes remaining, Kaba hit a running jumper along the baseline, and teammate Ashton Edwards doubled the lead with another jumper 30 seconds later. CSUDH would not score again until Dooley's uncontested layup with 10 seconds remaining.

The Nanooks finish their short trip south when they face Life Pacific at 1 p.m. Saturday in Game 3 of the Jamboree, while the Toros face host Alaska Anchorage in the finale of the 23rd annual event, Saturday at 3 p.m.
