LONG BEACH, CALIF. – The University of Alaska Anchorage broke the school record in the 4x100 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Invite Thursday.
Marc Mercier, Joshua Caleb, Kevin Angarita and Riday Jana got the stick around in 41.42 to finish 10th.
The previous record of 41.55 was set by Erik Walsh, Brandon Grant, David Registe and Michael Madrid in 2008.
"It's funny with relays," said associate head coach Ray Shadowens. "You can do the math and everything says you should be able to break the record, but we had said that many times over the years, and it didn't happen. Just proves you have to execute when it counts. The record is great, but seeing them compete when the pressure was on, has me even more excited."
The women's 4x100 relay of Mikayla Mader, Joei Vidad, Vivien Liessfeld and Portia Binford ran 48.35, the eight-fastest time all-time at UAA, to finish 20th.
Cole Nash ran a provisional qualifying time of 29:21.02, the fourth-fastest time ever at UAA, in the 10,000 to finish 10th in his heat at the Bryan Clay Invite.
