Four Seawolves earn All-GNAC honors

SPOKANE, WASH. – Joshua Caleb set two meet records and four University of Alaska Anchorage student-athletes earned All-GNAC honors on the first day of the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Monday.

Joshua Caleb ran meet records of 6.67 in the 60 and 20.97 in the 200. He will be the top-seed for the final of both events Tuesday.

The Seawolves earned a pair of All-GNAC honors in the long jump. Marc Mercier finished third (7.06/23-2) in the men's, and Mya Campbell placed third (5.64/18-6) in the women's. Her jump ranks fifth-best all-time at UAA.

Vivien Liessfeld earned All-GNAC honors in the pentathlon with a score of 3,380 points, fourth best in school history. She scored 844 points in the 60 hurdles (9.32) and 753 points in the long jump (5.68/18-7.75). Liessfeld placed fourth in the open long jump with a leap of 5.52/18-1.5.

Ty Elliott ran his way to All-GNAC honors in the 5,000 crossing the line in a time of 14:50.71 to finish third.

Ries Tveit finished eighth in the 5,000 (15:15.99), and Avery Williamson placed fifth in the women's race (18:03.77).

"It was very rewarding to see athletes that were not at the level of their conference peers out of high school - like Ty Elliott & Avery Williamson - embrace this challenge & show they are among the best in the conference tonight," said assistant head coach Chas Davis. "Very proud of the leaders they've become in this program."

The Seawolves got points from Daisey Macias who finished eighth in the pentathlon with 2,576 points, eighth best in school history.  

UAA had three women qualify for the finals of the 60 hurdles. Liv Heite qualified second (8.74), Lacie Simmons fifth (9.15) and Mette Van der Meer sixth (9.22).

Jess Chisar qualified fourth (2:16.76) and Lilli Lindner eighth (2:18.18) for the final of the 800.

Morgan Grant finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.69/21-11.5, the eighth-best mark in UAA history.

AJ Szewczyk ran 8.82 to finish 10th in the 60 hurdles, the eighth-fastest time in school history.

The women are currently fourth and the men are tied for seventh.

The GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude Tuesday.
