CALIFORNIA – The University of Alaska Anchorage opened a busy weekend of track and field in California with several record runs.
Joshua Caleb ripped a time of 10.11 (+3.6) in the 100, setting new meet, school and GNAC records. The time ranks second in NCAA Div. II this season and 22nd all-time in Div. II for all-conditions. The all-conditions time ranks fourth in the world in U20 and 15th in U20 African history.
Joshua Caleb opened the day on the track anchoring the 4x100 to a record setting run of 40.62 in the 4x100. The foursome of Marc Mercier, Riday Jana, Peyton George and Joshua Caleb lowered their own season-best to set new school and GNAC records.
Liv Heite lowered her own school record in the 100 hurdles by 0.01 by running 14.05. The time ranks ninth all-time in the GNAC and 24th in Div. II this season. She ran 12.35 in the 100 and 1:02.04 in the 400 hurdles.
The Seawolves had three other top-10 program times in the sprints. Riday Jana ran 10.60 in the 100, third-fastest all-time, and Marc Mercier ran 10.76, the seventh-fastest time all-time. Brian Morris ran 21.96 in the 200, the ninth-fastest time in school history.
John Peckham ran 9:01.54 in the steeplechase, the fifth-fastest time ever at UAA and the ninth-fastest time in Div. II this season.
Ty Elliott ran 15:03.98 in the 5,000, and Zach Grams ran 31:05.19 in the 10,000.
In the 800, Ryann Smith ran 2:14.35, Lilli Lindner 2:17.74 and Lucia Garcia 2:19.08. Hunter Taddy ran 1:55.95, and Lance Seneff ran 1:56.15 in the men's.
AJ Szewczyk ran 15.81 in the 110 hurdles and 57.11 in the 400 hurdles.
Mette Van der Meer and Lacie Simmons ran 14.77 and 14.79 in the 100 hurdles.
Peyton George ran 10.86 in the 100, and Ethan Stiller ran 50.73 in the 400.
Alexandra Otto led a trio of women in the 5,000 with a time of 17:13.73, followed by Makendra McCarty (17:56.76) and Tressa Wood (19:01.55).
Stephen Zukowski and Tobias Buchanan ran 9:46.73 and 9:54.54 in the steeplechase.
Edgar Vera ran 32:21.45 in the 10,000, and Sam Roy crossed the line in 33:25.86.
Mya Campbell cleared 1.52/4-11.75 in the high jump and 5.52/18-1.5 in the long jump.
Marc Mercier long jumped 7.04/23-1.25, and Morgan Grant jumped 6.45/21-2.
The Seawolves will compete again in California Friday.
