ANCHORAGE (Feb. 24) - Greg Freeman had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Taylor Wagner shut down the nation's leading scorer to lead the UAA men's basketball team to a 78-64 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii at the Sports Center Thursday night. Jon Madison came off the bench to score 13 for UAA (16-9, 5-6 Pac West), while David Evans led BYU-Hawaii (17-7, 10-3 PWC) with a game-high 18.
Evans, who entered the game as the top scorer in NCAA Division II at 29.3 points per game, was held in check by the defense of Wagner, who hounded the Seasiders' superstar all night. UAA built a 44-25 halftime advantage as Evans put up just six points in the first stanza. Meanwhile, Freeman made 6-of-8 shots as he scored 14 of his points before the break.
By evening's end, Freeman and Madison combined for 13-for-18 shooting as the Seawolves hit an impressive 49.1 percent against BYU's zone defense.
