ANCHORAGE - Ed Kirk and Taylor Wagner scored 19 points each as the University of Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team scored its most lopsided win ever over rival Alaska Fairbanks, 96-45 at the Sports Center on Saturday.
Peter Bullock scored 15 while Nelson Williams and Greg Freeman both added 12 to help UAA (19-7, 13-4 PWC) clinch the Pac West Conference's Pacific Division title. UAF (9-17, 8-9) was led by freshman Ryan Broker's 18 points.
The Seawolves jumped to an early 16-2 lead and held the Nanooks without a field goal until the 14:33 mark. UAF pulled to within nine at 17-8 but could get no closer as the Seawolves shot 51.4 percent and grabbed 16 steals. UAA's margin of victory was the largest in the series' 74 meetings, topping a 131-87 blowout at Fairbanks in the 1989-90 season. The Seawolves now lead the all-time series 53-21, including a 30-4 record at home.
UAA also recorded its biggest rebounding margin of the year, outboarding the Nanooks 52-33, while forcing UAF into a season-high 27 turnovers.
Williams led UAA with seven rebounds, marking a personal best for the junior from Texas.
The Seawolves, ranked No. 6 in the current NCAA Division II West Region poll, will try to solidify their playoff position when they finish the regular-season at UAF on Friday. That game tips off at 7 p.m. AST.
