Redhawks swoop on Seawolves

SEATTLE (March 2) - Playing in his final game as a Seawolf, senior forward Jon Madison scored a season-high 18 points, but it wasn't enough to save the UAA men's basketball team from a 79-68 defeat against host Seattle University at the Connolly Center tonight.

Freshman Mark Drake also scored 18 for UAA, which finished the season 9-18 overall, 9-9 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Steve Roberts led the Redhawks (6-23, 4-14) with 13 points.

Madison, who is from nearby Port Angeles, Wash., had his best game of the season, shooting 4 of 6 from the field, including 3 of 4 three-pointers. He also sank 7 of 9 free throws.

Drake, who passed Jim Hajdukovich for No. 2 on the UAA freshman scoring list, was 4 of 8 from long range and dished a pair of assists. The Shelbyville, Ind., native finished the season with 298 points after scoring just five points in the first seven games.

UAA's leading scorer and rebounder, Peter Bullock, was held well below his averages, finishing with nine points and six boards.

No other Seawolf scored more than five points as UAA finished under double-digit wins for the first time since turning Division II in 1977-78. Despite their overall record, however, the team did manage to tie for fourth place in the 10-team GNAC with Central Washington.

UAA will return eight players next season, including leading scorers Bullock and Drake.
