SCOUTING THE HAWAII TEAMS: No. 11 BYU-Hawaii started the year with a pair of wins over GNAC teams, beating Western Oregon (107-77) and Central Washington (102-101, ot) in Ellensburg. The Seasiders won their first home game over Henderson State (96-62) and host Tampa on Saturday before playing UAA. BYUH features five double-digit scorers, led by 6-9 So. F/C Lucas Alves (25.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, .667 FG) and 5-10 Jr. G Trenson Akana (19.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, .615 FG, .692 3FG) ... like UAA, Chaminade has suffered its only losses at the hands of Division I foes (Marquette & LSU). The Silverswords, who play their first game since Nov. 21 when they host Lee on Monday, are powered by four double-figure scorers of their own, including 6-7 Jr. F Rodrick Johnson (15.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg) and 6-2 Sr. G Hayden Heiber (14.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.0 apg) ... Hawaii Hilo has beaten Henderson State and Golden State Baptist at home and lost to Regis and Colorado Mines in Colorado. The Vulcans features five players who average between 9.3 and 12.0 points per game, led by 6-7 Jr. F Perry Baggett (12.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg, .588 FG) and 6-7 Sr. F Samuel Wilhoite (11.3 ppg, 9.5 rpg, .586 FG) ... neither Chaminade nor UHH features a single freshman or sophomore on their rosters.
TEXAS TROUNCINGS: The Seawolves had little trouble with Division II newcomer Texas-Permian Basin at home on Dec. 7 and 8, dispatching the Falcons by a combined 89 points ... in the first game, Sr. F McCade Olsen had 18 points (7-8 FT), 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and a career-best 5 steals, while Sr. F Carl Arts registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds). Sr. G Luke Cooper had 12 points (3-3 FG, 2-2 3FG) and 4 assists, and Fr. G and fellow Aussie Kevin White poured in a season-high 16 points (5-8 FG, 3-6 3FG, 3-3 FT) ... the Seawolves shot 56.4 percent the next night, led by a 20-point, 10-rebound effort from Arts and another 18 points from Olsen. Jr. F Cameron Burney had 13 of his career-high 17 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 3FG) in the first half and also tallied 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Jr. C Jeremiah Trueman came off the bench to get season-highs of 15 points (7-10 FG) and 5 rebounds.

PLAYER NOTES: Sr. F Carl Arts was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins over Texas-Permian Basin last week. The Valdez native posted his eighth and ninth career double-doubles as he became the 17th player in Seawolf history to amass 1,000 points. Arts currently leads the GNAC with 9.6 rpg and ranks 8th in scoring at 17.0 ppg. With 1,017 points he is the league's active career scoring leader. On UAA's career rebounds list, Arts needs just seven more to pass Burt Wallace (557, 1994-98) for No. 5; he also ranks in UAA's career top 10 in blocks (7th, 55), FG% (9th, .527), 3FG% (4th, .445), FT% (6th, .853) and games started (9th, 62) ... Sr. PG Luke Cooper dished 12 assists last weekend to increase his GNAC and UAA career record to 629. The Australian had one steal against UTPB to move into 3rd place on UAA's all-time list with 126; he also ranks in the top 10 in assists per game (1st, 6.8) and games started (7th, 69). Cooper's current 8.4 assists average leads the GNAC in that category by over two per contest ... Jr. G/F Cameron Burney rates 8th in the GNAC with .474 3FG shooting. In 28 career games, he is shooting .528 (21-39) from long range. Burney had career-highs in points (17) and assists (3) Saturday against UTPB, and came one short of his best rebounding effort with 7 ... Sr. F McCade Olsen ranks 15th in the GNAC in scoring (13.9) and 14th in rebounding (5.7) after the first seven games ... although it's still early, Sr. G Chris Bryant is on pace to break Kemmy Burgess' season records for three-pointers made (100) and made per game (3.06) ... at 3.14 treys per contest, Bryant currently rates second in the GNAC, making 22 of 48 (.458).
