#16 Seasiders down Seawolves in Jamboree finale

ANCHORAGE – Senior guard Travis Thompson scored 16 points but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not keep pace with nationally 16th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii as the Seasiders earned a 90-69 victory in the final game of the Seawolf Jamboree at the Alaska Airlines Center on Saturday.

UAA (3-7) also got 13 points from freshman center Kalidou Diouf, who was named to the all-tournament team along with Thompson.

BYU-Hawaii (8-0) was led by 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from senior forward Daniel Berger, plus 15 points and five assists from senior point guard Pablo Coro. Both players were also named to the all-tourney squad.

After Thompson nailed one of his four three-pointers to start the scoring, the Seasiders used an 11-3 run to take control. Facing a 14-point deficit midway through the first half, Thompson fired another trey to start an 11-2 surge that cut it to 30-25, but UAA would get no closer. BYUH led 47-35 at halftime and started the second half with a 15-6 run to pull away.

Thompson and Diouf were joined in double-figure scoring by teammates Christian Leckband – who had a season-high 14 points – and Kevin Bowman with 10 points. Bowman added five assists, while starting point guard Brian McGill dished a game-high seven.

Thompson had four assists and shot 4 of 10 from long range to move up to No. 2 on UAA's career three-pointers list with 244.

The Seawolves complete the non-conference portion of their schedule with a pair of home games against Portland Bible on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Alaska Airlines Center. Both games tip at 7 p.m.

NOTES: Thompson passed former record-holder Mark Drake (243, 2001-05) on UAA's career three-pointers list and now trails only former teammate Kyle Fossman (257, 2010-14) … now with 1,329 points, he needs just 34 more to catch Jason Kaiser (1,363 pts, 1993-95) for No. 6 in career scoring at UAA … Diouf scored at least 12 points for the seventh straight game after totaling just 12 points in UAA's first three contests … UAA fell to 40-9 all-time in the Jamboree, which was celebrating its 22nd edition in 2014.
