SILVER CITY, N.M. - Ed Kirk and Taylor Wagner continued their hot shooting as the University of Alaska Anchorage men rolled to their second victory here in as many nights, 93-72 over Western New Mexico.
With the victory, UAA (11-5, 5-2 Pac West) remains in a first-place tie with Montana State-Billings heading into the teams' Monday night showdown in Billings. WNMU (1-14, 1-6) was paced by L.T. Williams' 15 points.
Wagner hit 6-of-7 three-pointers in Saturday's win and finished with 24 points. In the two games in Silver City, the senior from Sandy, Utah, shot 15-for-19 from the field, including 9-of-11 on threes, for a total of 41 points.
Kirk, who hit 10-of-15 Saturday for 24 points, shot 19-of-28 in the series and tallied 44 points total. The 6-3 senior point guard entered the series as the 16-team Pac West's leading scorer at 20.8 ppg.
Freshman forward Peter Bullock had another strong showing with 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting. UAA had 16 assists to only eight turnovers and shot the ball at a 55.2 percent (37-67) clip. Meanwhile, UAA outworked the Mustangs on the boards 37-26.
